            Traição

Published in November 2010, and in a departure from the world of science, comes the new novel by Thais Russomano entitled "Traição".

Initially to be published in her native language of Portuguese, Betrayal recounts a tale of the love of cousins Bernardo and Dora, a love that was born to last an eternity. Many years later at the funeral of the renowned judge Bernardo Lemos, a secret is uncovered by Inah, his second wife - a skeleton in the cupboard that was thought forgotten for all time. But how had she discovered it? And how did it give rise to an intriguing story of passion, betrayal, revenge, and redemption?

A Gravidade - Esta Grande Escultora

How to use Earth's Gravity to your advantage
Authors: Joan Vernikos & Thais Russomano

This book points out, using simple language, the findings of Space Research that can help us to understand how we constantly use Earth's gravity to improve the quality of our lives. Written together with Dr Joan Vernikos, former Director of Nasa's Life Sciences division,  this book shows how adopting a lifestyle that optimizes the use of gravity as an ally, can help reverse or slow down the changes that come with the so-called aging process. Preface by John Glenn, first American astronaut to orbit the Earth (1962) and oldest man in Space at aged 77 (1998).

The Effects of Hypergravity & Microgravity
            on Biomedical Experiments

In the aerospace environment, human, animal, and plant physiology differs significantly from that on Earth, and this book provides reasons for some of these changes. Challenges encountered by pilots can have implications on health and safety of not only themselves but others. Knowing the effects of hypergravity on the human body during high-speed flight led to the development of human centrifuges. We also need to better understand the physiological responses of living organisms in space. It is therefore necessary to simulate weightlessness through the use of special equipment, such as clinostats, tilt tables, and body suspension devices. Each of these ideas, and more, is addressed in this review of the physical concepts related to space flights, microgravity, and hypergravity simulations. Basic theories, such as Newton's law and Einstein's principle are explained, followed by a look at the biomedical effects of experiments performed in space life sciences institutes, universities, and space agencies.
