A new exhibition opened this week at the Science Museum in London, just in time for the school summer holidays. The museum is the most visited science and technology museum in Europe and last year had more than 3.3 million visitors through its doors.
I myself have spent many days over the years wandering around the various galleries of old and new technology displays. It was, therefore, a huge honour to know that the Science Museum wanted to display the Earlobe Arterial Blood Collector (EABC), developed by yours truly and the crew from the MicroG & IDEIA, PUCRS, Brazil.
This device, which already has patents granted in Europe and the USA, is an excellent alternative method to the current gold standard means of collecting arterial blood, through accessing arterialized blood in a standardized, secure manner, and with no blood contamination of the environment. The new interactive exhibition shows the design evolution of the EABC, a device originally conceived to provide a means of safe arterialized blood collection in the microgravity environment of space, whilst also providing a spin-in benefit for use in terrestrial medicine. The Science Museum exhibition will run from July 2014 for approximately 3 to 6 months.
