
Built by a consortium of Japanese companies and scientists, including the University of Tokyo and the Toyoto Motor Corporation, Kirobo has been designed to educate children by sending messages and photos from the ISS to schools. In addition, he will be a companion for Koichi Wakata, the first Japanese commander of the ISS, who will arrive at the station later this year.
The images, which were taken two weeks ago, have just been released during a presentation as a part of Tokyo’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games, with the winning city due to be announced later this week, 7th September.
