Astronauts Reid Wiseman and Steve Swanson from the United States and German astronaut Alexander Gerst will be watching events of the World Cup live from space – some 230 miles above Earth on board the International Space Station. All three astronauts sent their best wishes, with Gerst saying "We want to wish all the teams and fans on the ground and in Brazil a great World Cup! Have fun and have peaceful games. May the best win and viel Glück!" – before showing off their own footballing talents by performing bicycle kicks aided by the benefits of a microgravity environment created by the continuous freefall of the ISS.
I wish you all a wonderful World Cup experience and may the best team win - as long as it’s Brazil (a good chance) or England (hmmm…. well we can dream!)
