Following the successful landing of the Mars Curiosity rover, the car-sized laboratory on wheels finally took its first steps on planet Mars yesterday - or should we say laid its first tracks. The rover craft moved 15 feet forward, before rotating 120 degrees and backing up about 8 feet. Only a short trip for sure, but an important step in successfully testing out its motor systems for the many adventures that lie ahead as it investigates the climate and geology of the planet, which may prove vital for the future of any manned mission to Mars.
